[With his magic back, Loki has his own ways of travelling; less flashy, admittedly, but just as effective. It lets him slide into the other dimension pretty quietly. He waits somewhere near the restaurant, far enough away that if America seems to be in the kind of bad mood that does involve walls he can still make a run for it.]
[America emerges from her star portal on the sidewalk outside the restaurant. Looking around, she doesn't spot Loki, figuring she arrived before him. Not a problem, she'll wait.
And try to persuade the waitstaff, who noticed her entry and came outside to investigate, that she means them-- and their restaurant-- no harm.]
[Loki thinks about leaving anyway, but honestly? He's here now, and for once he's not going to just run away from things. Or, at least, he's going to try not to run; he can't always help his instincts, after all. Instead he walks up behind America. At least he doesn't look quite like the kid who got thrown through the wall last time; that should help, right?]
I promise, she's not going to damage the restaurant.
[She isn't startled. Totally isn't startled when his voice comes from right behind her. Coolly, she turns and looks at him. The waiter seems convinced, if reluctant, and lets them both in. At least there's that.
They head inside and take a seat at a table in the corner.]
No, of course not. Thor... still believes I don't remember anything. I'd prefer to leave it that way.
[He shrugs, and then hesitates, but he can't help feeling a little guilty over this one and he'd like to talk it out. Preferably without angering America, as difficult as that might be given the topic.]
[Genuinely so. Oh, he can believe it of some members of the team, but... at the very least, America has always known what she's doing. He finds himself oddly disappointed; he'd put no small amount of effort into putting that team together, after all.]
You certainly seemed determined the last time I saw you.
You still have a team. A good one, if I do say so myself. I thought you'd find a new goal quite quickly, actually.
[They should have been fine. He finds himself trying to locate where it could have gone wrong, and stops himself; he left for a reason. Besides, his help was almost certainly unnecessary and unwanted.]

We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. I'll meet you there. [And she hangs up, kicking open a door to the Korean restaurant's dimension.]

I gotta say, I half didn't think you'd show.

[Which one of them wasn't turning up, he doesn't specify.]
And yet, here we are anyway.

[A w k w a r d s i l e n c e .]
So. I don't suppose you want to talk about what you've been up to?

no subject
A sword? Didn't figure you for the sword type.

[He shrugs; the history means a little less to him than it does to everyone else in Asgard.]
Odin left it for me, some years ago. Of course, he also left a number of tests in the way.
no subject
I'm going to assume you either passed or found a way around those tests.
no subject
Well, yes, or I'd not have the sword. Some of the tests were... easier than others.

[If she knows she'll have to try to stop him. Or something.]

One of the tests involved his trust.
no subject
You're going to break his trust, aren't you?
[It's... as nonjudgmental a statement as she can make it, but still comes out with that sad, resigned note.]
no subject
Wrong tense, I'm afraid. I break his trust very nearly daily, after all, just by being me.
[The side of his mouth twitches into something that looks almost like disgust at himself, but it smooths back out almost immediately.]
But if you mean do I plan on betraying him in any major way, then no.

[She pulls apart her chopsticks and takes a bite of food, chewing through the awkward silence that follows.]
no subject
You never did tell me what you've been up to yourself.

AND SO BEGINS THE HEADCANON][America finishes chewing, swallows, then takes a drink of water before answering.]
Things have quieted down for us. We still go around and fight bad guys and stuff, but... [She pauses to consider her words.]
...We're pretty directionless, at the moment.

[It's one of the reasons he approached her in the first place, after all.]
You make it sound like there's a problem there.
no subject
I guess you've got me pegged. [She takes another bite of food, then shrugs.] Guess there's no problem.
